Background

Data that exists — but can’t be followed up.

Modern poultry house systems in egg production collect large amounts of operational data, including on climate and production. In practice, that data is often hard to access outside the control system itself — and therefore hard to follow up, compare and use to improve production over time.

Hönan is a programme for data monitoring in Swedish egg production that aims to make that data accessible and useful for producers and advisers.

CLIND Engineering’s contribution

System integration, from hardware to computer.

  • Interface to existing control hardware — technical development of the route for extracting data from the poultry house control system.
  • Documented method for data extraction — a process that can be repeated and generalised to more sites.
  • Testing in live operation — verification at a producer, in real production.
  • Data quality — feedback on quality and extraction methods.
  • Knowledge sharing — analysis and presentation in industry forums.
What it shows

The same problem exists in many industries: valuable operational data locked inside a machine or a control system. The work in Hönan is about understanding existing hardware, finding a reliable way to get the data out and verifying that it holds up in real operation — a method that applies far beyond egg production.
